Omar Medina

Omar Medina is a Mexican composer and producer based in Amsterdam. His work blends glitch, dark ambient, and experimental electronica into immersive sonic environments that explore themes of migration, memory, and technological adaptation. A guitarist by training, Medina expanded his practice into experimental electronics, developing a hybrid approach that combines modular synthesis, custom Max/MSP software, and live performance. His music is a visceral reflection on living between eras and cultures, balancing machine-driven rhythms with slow, atmospheric textures that invite deep listening and contemplation. His upcoming album, Goleb, is slated for release in September 2026.

My generation witnessed the arrival of the digital age. We experienced the transition from physical formats and analog technologies into a world shaped by software, networks, and increasingly invisible systems. This experience of transition is central to my artistic practice. Having moved from Mexico to the Netherlands, I experienced another form of displacement that reshaped my relationship with identity, memory, and adaptation. Through sound, I explore the uncertain spaces between past and future, human and machine, resistance and acceptance.

I compose through the design of musical systems. Using modular synthesizers, custom Max/MSP software, Ableton Live, field recordings, and sampled material, I create frameworks of timbre, texture, and sonic behavior that evolve through interaction. My work moves between slow, immersive environments and sudden bursts of intensity, treating rhythm as a psychological force rather than a fixed structure. Rooted in glitch, ambient, IDM, and noise, my compositions explore the tension between organic and synthetic elements.

Goleb is a memory that has been slowly distorting in digital space. Across five tracks and forty-five minutes, it traces the friction between analog noise and the sterile precision of the digital present — not as a journey from one to the other, but as a space of constant collision.

At its center is a character: a digital immigrant, noisy and frontal by birth, who watches transformation from a place he believes is safe — not realizing that place has already shifted beneath him. Goleb tries to remain still against the violence of change, and inevitably fails.

Dark, abrasive, and occasionally overwhelming — punctuated by bursts of hyper-kinetic energy and sudden tenderness. Nostalgia and noise. A farewell to the twentieth century and an ambivalent embrace of the twenty-first.
